The City of Seguin is both the county seat and the principal commercial center of Guadalupe County in Texas. Seguin has been experiencing dramatic growth in all the business sectors. Boasting an abundant and reliable supply or both water and electricity, Seguin stands out as an excellent commercial site with a friendly and welcoming residential community, as well as one of the highest per-capita concentrations of manufacturing jobs.

Seguin provides businesses with a climate close to several metropolitan areas without the big city challenges.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) is to benefit and accomplish public purposes of the City of Seguin, by promoting, encouraging and enhancing the creation of jobs in Seguin through projects that assist in the retention, expansion and attraction of businesses and industries.

Seguin’s cooperative city government and "one stop" permit process help expedite construction projects in a quick and efficient manner. We understand how valuable your time is and we strive to meet your needs and expectations. (4A Sales Tax Corporation)

Seguin and the surrounding area are home to major manufacturers. The local government as well as that of the State of Texas is business-friendly and committed to the growth of industry and jobs. LINK ED2 as a drop box/list

Additionally, with the development of SH-130 (currently under construction and a head of schedule) providing an alternate route from the IH-35 gridlock, future commercial traffic will be diverted from just north of Austin to Seguin. This places Seguin as a very strategic location for distribution centers and manufacturers alike and will impact both retail and industrial market growths complimenting the all ready accelerated growth trend.

Seguin became a 4A Sales Tax Corporation in 1991. The tax is primarily intended for manufacturing and industrial development, and Seguin uses the money raised by this sales tax to acquire or pay for land, buildings, equipment, facilities, expenditures, targeted infrastructure and improvements for purposes related to:
  • manufacturing and industrial facilities, recycling facilities, distribution centers, small warehouse facilities;
  • research and development facilities, regional or national corporate headquarters facilities, primary job training facilities for use by institutions of higher education, job training classes; telephone call centers; and career centers that are not located within a junior college taxing district;
  • a general aviation business service airport that is an integral part of an industrial park;
  • certain infrastructure improvements, which promote or develop new or expanded business enterprises;
  • port-related facilities to support waterborne commerce; and
  • maintenance and operating costs associated with projects.
Seguin also boasts about Texas Lutheran University, the national recognition it receives, and the Central Texas Technology Center that attracts hundreds of students to the region on a daily basis. The economic condition and outlook of the city and county have followed the national trend as indicated by the 5.0% unemployment rate of the San Antonio area according to the Texas Workforce Commission for July 2005.
