Qualifications:
Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED, preferred Texas Education Certification for School Bus Drivers Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) With “S” and “P” endorsements Acceptable driving record for seven years Acceptable Fingerprinting and Criminal History Record Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to read and write Ability to pass a yearly DOT physical which includes lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening Ability to read and follow designated route descriptions Ability to communicate appropriately with parents, students and staff Ability to complete required bus driver safety training Ability to evacuate students in the event of an emergency

Responsibilities:
Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Drive a school bus safely and professionally. 2. Exercise the effective defensive driving skills of self-control, alertness, foresight and good judgment at all times while operating the school bus. 3. Become familiar with assigned bus routes. 4. Conduct a passenger check after completion of each route. 5. Perform and properly complete daily pre and post trip inspections. 6. Know, recognize and obey road signs and signals by meanings, shapes, sounds and colors. 7. Support and enforce discipline policies set forth in the district’s student code of conduct. 8. Attend all scheduled in-service training. 9. Immediately report all mechanical problems to staff. 10. Keep assigned bus clean inside and out. 11. Fuel bus when fuel gauge reads half full. 12. Respond to after-hours emergency calls, if necessary. 13. Know and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures of a school bus. 14. Report all safety concerns to Transportation Safety office. 15. Participate in drug and alcohol testing, as required. 16. Complete all reports on student discipline incidents. 17. Maintain and enforce seating chart as all students must be in assigned seat. 18. Supervise students while transporting them to include not permitting passengers to stand or sit on the floor of the bus while the bus is in motion. 19. Support discipline policies set forth in the district’s student code of conduct.
