(Seguin) — Going once, twice, sold! The Community Council of South Central Texas is looking to pull in additional resources for area veterans by hosting a week long online auction.

The CCSCT is encouraging folks to secure a bid during its Auction for Action fundraiser.

Daniela Flores, spokesperson for the CCSCT, says unfortunately, the pandemic has forced non-profits like the Community Council to think outside the box when it comes to fundraising and hopes an online auction will be just the thing they need to secure more money for its Veteran’s Financial Assistance Program.

“This is a great program. We have helped over 100 veteran families to stay in their household whether it’s mortgage assistance, utility assistance or even transportation services and this is something that we want to continue to do and we know that with the support of our generous community, we will be able to do so,” said Flores

Flores says the auction will take part on the Mobile Fundraising Ap, “Better World,” where patrons can browse items and register to bid online.

She says most importantly, there is no cost to participate and encourages folks to give it a try.

“So, we want to invite you to our Auction for Action which is taking place online. Of course with the limitations of COVID-19, we felt that this was the most appropriate way in order to stay safe and to also achieve our goal of raising these funds. So, the platform we are using is called Better World. It is an auction site and there is no charge or fee to register. There is also no free or charge to browse the items that we do have for auction. There are minimum auction amounts on each item and we have a wide array of items out there. I would mainly say that they circle around camping type items. So, if that’s something you are interested in, we really invite you to check our auction which is going on today all the way to Friday. So, Friday will be the closing bid,” said Flores.

Items have graciously been donated by community partners such as but not limited to Karnes Electric Cooperative, Jordan Ford, Harbor Freight, Natural Bridge Caverns, Messina Hof, The Alcalde Hotel, Skeeter Boats, Magic Bait, The Home Depot, Vaughn, Tractor Supply, Napa Auto Parts, Henry Rifles and Black Rifle Coffee Company.

Flores says thanks to these partners, there will be something for everyone.

“The list of those items are available on our Facebook event page. You just click the link and it takes you straight to it. There’s an item photo as well as a description and the beginning bid price. So, there you can go ahead and browse. You know we all like to go and window shop and if you feel like it, we’d appreciate you putting in a bid. I mean who knows? We are hoping for a good amount of traffic to come in and look at the items we have that have been graciously donated by community businesses as well as surrounding community businesses and we also want to take the time to thank the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans Assistance. This is what funds our program primarily and for more information on the Veterans Commission you can visit, www.tvc.texas.gov,” said Flores.

Flores says starting bids can be as low as $1 to $175.

“Anything is really appreciated. The pandemic has thrown a lot people for a tail spin, people who maybe had been blessed and haven’t had situations like these or have been at risk for homelessness. We do serve 21 counties with this specific program. There is a large need out there and every little bit helps. We’ve even had members of the community that donated their complete stimulus check to us and we appreciate that type of support and that type of confidence that we have earned within this community and surrounding areas,” said Flores.
