It’s good to get wet during a Texas summer, especially when you can combine your dips and dunks with a little adventure. Combine water skiing, waterslides and other aquatic escapades with great amenities and there’s a good chance you’re spending the weekend in Seguin. Home to craft breweries, great local restaurants and a variety of affordable lodging options, there’s plenty to do beyond a customary tube float on the Guadalupe River. However you line up your itinerary, refreshing Seguin is seductive in the summertime heat.

It’s not often we get to paddle upstream but the gentle Guadalupe River current invites round trip novice canoeing thanks to the dam. Part of the legendary Texas Paddling Trail, the 4-mile route shoulders Max Starcke Park where overhanging trees host scores of colorful birds also drawn to the riparian shade. Bring your canoe with you when you come to paddle these trails. If you prefer to let the current do the work you should settle in for a little Guadalupe River tubing. Seguin Tubes will set you, your friends, family and dog up for the float in non-abrasive tubes.

The green kingfishers know what they’re doing here, as anglers can cast off the banks for catfish, sunfish, largemouth and Guadalupe bass. Whether paddling or pitching your lure, the 227-acre park offers plenty of shade for picnicking as well as sport courts, trails and a championship golf course.

Max Starcke Park adds still more hydration options, specifically the 15,000-square foot wave pool at the Seguin Aquatic Center. The zero depth beach type entry invites easy access for little ones and grandparents alike, ideal for a multigenerational family celebration. Settle into the splash pool or set up a poolside party on the covered picnic tables.

Seguin parks keep getting better, as in Park West that came into being just three years ago. To continue reading this story from MySA.com, please click here.
