(Seguin) — Whether it’s a barbecue paradise for eight on the banks of the Guadalupe River or an hour of ax throwing, a prize might just be waiting for you this coming Fat Tuesday. Tickets for a total of 16 raffle prizes are now on sale thanks to the Seguin Education Foundation. The online raffle is part of the non-profit group’s fundraising efforts for the upcoming school year.

Laura Torres, the executive director for the Seguin Education Foundation, says tickets for the Fat Tuesday Virtual Raffle will be sold online until the drawing scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16. Torres says thanks to wonderful donors, most of the 16 prize packages features a combination of items.

“The raffle you can find the information if you go to the Seguin Education Foundation Facebook page and it’s the top link on the main page and then you just click and you can buy entries into a number of different packages. I really liked it because we have a little something for everybody. We have a date night package. Two of the schools, Barnes and Breezy, they came together and they have a little fire pit with s’mores and all that good stuff. Vogel provided us with a Cajun Seafood Boil basket so you are going to have all the ingredients for that. There’s some lotto, some purses, all sorts of different prizes and the minimum is $10 for 10 entries and of course, you can increase your entries and increase the amount who have to win those packages,” said Torres.

Torres says the group believes the raffle will give everyone the chance to win no matter how much money they spend on tickets. Plus, she says it’s an easy way for people to try their luck at some great prizes.

“This worked really well online because with the auctions, it is a little bit different. It’s simple for everyone to understand and access. That was the big thing for us as we cant’ have an in-person fundraiser this year. We just wanted to make it so anybody basically with a phone and a credit card could contribute in some way,” said Torres.

Other packages include but are not limited to a pair of Consuela purses; an overnight hog hunt; pizza for a year at Marco’s Pizza; Kendra Scott jewelry; a Messina Hof Winery public tour and tasting for four; an autographed Texas Rangers signed Chris Woodward cap; rounds of golf at Max Starcke Park and The Bandit and a family fun day in New Braunfels which includes Stars and Stripes Drive In, Natural Bridge Caverns, Wildlife Ranch and Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo. Topping the list is the “I’m Nuts About Seguin” raffle package which includes a $100 gift card for swimming lessons or pool rental/membership to TLU’s Recreation Department; tickets to HomeTown Cinemas; gift cards to The Dilly Deli, Court Street Coffee mug and beans; a painting from Bam’s Antiques; gift cards to Amy and Cathy’s Take-Out and two custom cutting boards courtesy of the Koehler Company.

Torres says she encourages everyone to visit the list of items for themselves and help support the foundation’s commitment to education.

“This fundraiser is really significant because it’s our big annual fundraiser for the year and just because we couldn’t have an in-person event, we didn’t’ want the ball to drop on that because as I mentioned, there are still teachers and there are still students that can benefit from a creative learning experience so we just wanted to maintain the amount that we have been giving them throughout the years despite the pandemic going on and it’s especially important this year to be able to do that and we just wanted to come and find a way to do that and maintain social distancing and be able to give back to the classroom because the foundation funds projects that might otherwise not receive any money and we don’t want teachers paying out of pocket for things and so we wanted to be able to do that especially this year when things are tight to be able to provide the same level of support that we’ve been providing all these years,” said Torres.

Again, the link to view the list of items and to purchase your raffle tickets can be found on the Seguin Education Foundation Facebook page.
