(Seguin) – City of Seguin officials say they are doing everything they can to be as transparent as possible with their information and knowledge of local power outages. In a message board shared on its social media page, the city writes,

“We hear you, Seguin, we know you are frustrated, and we are with you. We understand the safety concerns our community has about power outages. These outages are state-wide and electric crews are working hard to restore power across Texas.”

It goes on to explain that when the temperatures dip into single digits, the demand for energy obviously increases.

The city states, ‘during this winter event, demands have exceeded the amount of available power resulting in the need to either conserve power or initiate rolling blackouts to help meet energy demand. These state-wide blackouts are controlled by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), and the rolling outages are expected to continue through Wednesday, and possibly longer. Please note that the City of Seguin Electric department has no control over the length and location of the outages, as transmission of our electricity is controlled by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) as dictated by ERCOT.”

In its message to citizens, officials say that Seguin Electric crews have been working around the clock to address issues on their end. Residents, again, are asked to report a power outage by calling 830-401-2404.

Meanwhile, if you do have power or when your power is restored, city officials ask that you please conserve. They ask that you continue to set your thermostat to 68 degrees or below. Finally, unplug any devices or electronics that are not in use.
