(Seguin) – Floats are in place for this year’s Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas. Hosting the event on behalf of the city of Seguin is the Seguin Main Street Program. Assistant Director Blaire Zahn says the city is excited and amazed by the enthusiasm that has resurfaced for the long-standing tradition that for the first time was forced to cancel last year.

“It has been really good so far. We have had a lot of interest. We have a lot of entries. We are not back up to full scale quite yet. We are still seeing some entries trickle in every now and then, but people are excited. I think everybody wants to get back out again and it’s one of Seguin’s really big, fun weekends so we are just excited to have it back on the calendar,” said Zahn.

Zahn says safety is key in any community gathering. She says that’s why the city believes it’s important that individuals do what they feel is necessary to keep safe and have a good time.

“We want people to be as safe as they can be. We want everybody to be comfortable. People are going to come out. There are going to be crowds so if you feel like you need to wear a mask, we will definitely encourage that. We will not require it but we just want everyone to feel as safe as they can. So, we are doing what we can to make sure people are comfortable out there. We are expecting large crowds, so again, if they want to get set up, we always of course recommend them getting out there early but be safe in the heat as well. Keeping that in mind. Make sure you have lots of water and sunscreen and everything because it’s going to be a hot one, that’s for sure,” said Zahn.

Although, the city has already put the finishing touches on this year’s route, Zahn says they are doing all they can to make sure anyone who wants to participate still gets that opportunity.

“As far as parade entries, the deadline was on Monday, but we are still taking entries if people are interested. The only thing is at this point, our line-up is done so any entries that are submitted from this point on will just have to be added to the end of the line. So, that’s the only caveat but we will still take a few entries if people are interested in being in the parade,” said Zahn.

In preparing for the parade, Zahn also ask that people refrain from securing their seat along the route until Saturday. She says heavier foot traffic these next few days plus KWED’s Freedom Fiesta the night before only adds more obstacles to ensuring your spot along Austin Street.

“We prefer that they not put out chairs or anything until the Saturday morning just because we cannot guarantee their safety, the security of the chairs — we can’t guarantee that they will still be there so get out there in the morning. The flag raising ceremony on Saturday starts at 9 a.m. so that’s the first event kicking off Saturday so if they can get out there Saturday morning and set up, that will be the best,” said Zahn.

The Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Seguin. Those interested in participating in the parade are asked to call 830-401-2448.
