The city of Seguin is ready to get a little nutty in its celebration of the area’s top agricultural product.

Pecan Fest is slated for a day full of events including trade days, a pecan cracking contest, a pub crawl and more.

“Guadalupe County is still one of the largest pecan producers in the state, if not the nation,” Seguin Main Street and Convention and Visitor Bureau Director Kyle Kramm said. “We are home of the world’s largest pecan. So, this is the celebration of all things pecan and our connection to that famous nut.”

The event will kick off with Trade Days running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Central Park. About 100 vendors will set up booths around the park to sell their wares, including a couple of pecan-based vendors, Kramm said.

“It is a little scaled back from prior years due to COVID,” he said. “Some organizations didn’t feel comfortable holding their events this year. We are still expecting a great crowd and great weather.”

The Texas Agriculture Education and Heritage Center, also known as the Big Red Barn, located at 390 Cordova Road, will open its doors to vendors and guests to meander around its Heritage Village.

At 12:30, the Get Crackin’ pecan cracking contest will get underway. Participants can register online before Saturday at getcrackincontest.eventbrite.com or prior to the start of the event in Central Park between 10 a.m. and noon.

Live music will fill the air as local bands take the stage throughout the day. The Seguin Conservation Society will open up Heritage Village for guests while the Sebestopol and Magnolia Hotel will welcome visitors. The Aumont Hotel has added a ghost tour this year, Kramm said.

Also joining the Pecan Fest line up is the Seguin Film and Arts Festival, which will show various short films between noon and 5 p.m. at the Palace Theatre. The theater is set to show classic horror films starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.

“We’re excited to have that addition,” Kramm said.

Rounding out the event is the annual celebration of the town’s namesake.

The Hats Off to Juan Seguin Pub Crawl will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Participants get their crawl passport and goodies at 1916 Bar & Bistro and then make their way downtown to various establishments for refreshments.

“For Hats Off, you are encouraged to wear the wildest and craziest hats you’ve got,” Kramm said. “You can make them, they can be store bought, it is Halloween weekend, so they can be Halloween themed.”

Pecan Fest offers a little something for everyone, Kramm said.

“We want you to come break out of your shell, harvest a good time and go nuts,” he said.
