(Seguin) — This week might just be the week that you find a new job.

Job seekers are encouraged to polish up their resumes for this week’s Seguin Winter Job Fair. The job fair, being hosted by the Seguin Economic Development Corporation, will be held this Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Seguin area employers will be hiring for entry, intermediate and advanced-level positions.

SEDC Executive Director Josh Schneuker, says 25 employers from a variety of industries will be on hand and looking to fill positions immediately.

“It’s actually kind of interesting when you look at unemployment rates and our conversations of actual businesses, you would think that there is a much higher employment rate but right now, we’ve got an unemployment rate, last reported, is about 3.6 percent in the city so we are almost definitely back to pre-pandemic levels in terms of unemployment rates — even with civilian labor force population as well. We are really back to where we were in January, February of 2020 timeframe where we constantly saw unemployment rates below 4 percent but when you go talk to employers, the struggle is still there to find workers and to get positions filled and I think there is still a lot of folks out there that are looking to hopefully reenter the labor market and that’s why we are working with them to put on this job fair. We want to provide as many opportunities as we can for both our employers and prospective employees to be matched up and hopefully find new opportunities. We have a lot of great companies here in Seguin,” said Schneuker.

Schneuker says the city is hoping that folks who need a job will come out and take advantage of this opportunity.

“So obviously here in Seguin with manufacturing being our primary industry, we do have a lot of manufacturers participating but we have healthcare, education, professional services, really kind of a variety and really I think opportunities across the board regardless of your previous experience and your skill sets — I think the employers that are going to be participating in the job fair later on this week are really going to have a lot to offer and we are hoping that we can get good attendance and kind of build off the attendance that we had at our last job fair which was a regional job fair with our partners over at New Braunfels. So, we are hoping the attendance will be there and we definitely know the opportunities for jobs will definitely be on full display at the job fair,” said Schneuker.

Schneuker says due to the eagerness of employers to fill vacancies, individuals will want to come ready.

“Dress for success. Make sure you have an updated resume and just come ready to sell yourself and have conversations with a lot of the employers that are going to be there. I think there is going to be a lot of opportunities for possibly on the site interviews, possibly even on the site job offers just with the amount of positions that we have open across the city right now so again, just come in, show your best self and I think there is definitely an opportunity to hopefully walk away with a job at the end of the day,” said Schneuker.

Schneuker says the time couldn’t be more perfect to find a new job or make a change. He says the benefits and incentives of doing so are there.

“It’s definitely become very competitive out there not just within Seguin but you can really look around the region and around the state and see that companies are doing what they can to separate themselves and make them attractive to the job seekers. This is really a job seekers’ market right now. So, we have seen a lot of increase in wages. You can kind of go around and drive, find difffent facilities around town and see advertising for positions. We are seeing anywhere from $15 to even $18 bucks an hour with some of these starting positions now. That wasn’t the case pre-pandemic. We did have a low unemployment rate but we didn’t’ have I think the pressures on the wages and now these pressures are causing wages to go up within the market which at the end of the day benefits the job seeker. That’s why we are really trying to push this out there. There’s a lot of positions to be filled and a lot of opportunities with jobs that definitely pay pretty well within the community so we are hoping that we can get a good turnout and get some people to leave the day with a brand new career,” said Schneuker.

Participating companies include Alamo Group TX, Ameritex Pipe & Products, Caterpillar, City of Seguin, CMC Steel Texas, Community Council of South Texas, EPMP LTD, ESS, Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center, Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, Hawkins Personnel Group, Hexcel Corporation, Minigrip, Modern Staffing, Navarro ISD, Rave Gears, Seguin Fabricators LTD, Seguin Housing Authority, Seguin ISD, Servpro, Tyson Foods, Vitesco Technologies, Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation of Seguin and ZDT’s Amusement Park.

The job fair, again, will be held this Thursday at the American Legion Hall located at 618 E. Kingsbury St.
