Seguin, Texas- On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, over 800 8th graders from Jim Barnes Middle School, Briesemeister Middle School, Navarro Middle School, and Marion Middle School will attend the first inaugural Seguin Area Youth Career Expo - an interactive career expo, at the Seguin Coliseum. Students will have the opportunity to meet business professionals from a variety of industries, discover in-demand careers and explore Career & Technical Education pathways.

“Seguin area students are required to choose their career pathways the semester before their freshman year. This expo provides hands on career exposure at a critical point in their academic careers. Our hope is that our students are inspired by the diversity of careers available in their own backyard,” said Rick Bough, Seguin ISD Career & Technical Education Director.

During the Seguin Area Youth Career Expo, over 30 local employers across a variety of industries will gather at the Seguin Coliseum to showcase their company's operations through a hands-on interactive experience. Exhibitors will bring equipment, products, videos, uniforms and conduct demonstrations to create an interactive student experience that will highlight the company's career pathways as well as the educational attainment and skill sets that are required for success in that company's industry.

“The workforce development events we host throughout the year focus on high school students. While a handful of them will potentially work for an area company within the next two-three years, it’s important for businesses to introduce their industry to the younger generation. That’s where we come in. We help our community connect our youth with potential career paths after they graduate. We work to prepare a skilled workforce to fill the needs of various industries. Facilitating a career expo is one way we do that,” said Josh Schneuker, Executive Director, Seguin Economic Development Corporation.

Participants include: Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, Caterpillar Inc, Hexcel, Junie and Jae, City of Seguin Information Technology, City of Seguin Parks and Recreation, Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire Department, Rave Gears, CMC Steel Texas, Alamo Industrial, SAMSAT STEM, Texas A&M Engineering - Spark!
