(Seguin) — The Navarro ISD Board of Trustees has selected its lone finalist for superintendent of schools. Trustees late Wednesday night approved Mandy Epley as the lone finalist for the job. Epley currently serves as the assistant superintendent of strategic initiatives and programs for the Comal ISD in New Braunfels.
Board President Renee Rehfeld says Epley brings all the skills and experiences that they were looking for at Navarro, including her work in a fast growing district, her experience managing bonds projects, and her strong background in curriculum. Rehfeld says Epley also has had success with other key challenges that are currently facing the Navarro ISD, and district believes that she is committed to some of the same priorities that exist within the district.
Epley was the unanimous decision for the board, which has spent the last few days interviewing a total of six candidates. KWED and the Seguin Daily News expects to speak with Epley soon to get her reaction to the announcement that she is the lone finalist for the superintendent’s job in the Navarro ISD. We also expect to hear more from Rehfeld about the board’s ultimate decision to offer the job to Epley.
The board is working to formally fill the position of former Superintendent Wendi Russell, who retired last spring. The position had been filled for months by Acting-Superintendent Luke Morales, but the board announced earlier this year that Morales would be returning to his deputy superintendent position and that the it would officially begin a search for its next top administrator. The district is currently under the leadership of Interim Superintendent Dee Carter. Carter served as the longtime superintendent in the Navarro ISD, prior to her retirement in 2020.
Now that Epley has been named the lone finalist, the district must wait 21-days before it can officially hire her for the job.
