Guadalupe County, Seguin ISD, SA Food Bank joining forces
(Seguin) — Today is your last chance to register for this weekend’s food distribution event.

Guadalupe County this Saturday will be joining forces with the Seguin ISD and the San Antonio Food Bank in hosting the Community Food Distribution Event. Teams of volunteers will be on hand to help load vehicles this Saturday in the Seguin ISD Administration Building parking lot at 1221 E. Kingsbury St.

Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, says the county continues to partner up with area school districts to provide the much-need food assistance to all families in the area.

“We are kind of trying to bring an initiative to fighting the hunger in the county and feeding everybody and so these are just one of the spots that we are going to be at this weekend at the Seguin ISD Administrative Office there in Seguin. Next month, we will be in Marion and the following month, we will be back in the Schertz-Cibolo area. The Commissioners Court has dedicated some funds to the San Antonio Food Bank over the past few years. This year, we allocated some of our ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding towards the food bank just to make sure because they stepped up during the time of need for the communities and began to feed everybody and so right now, we are just hosting those and my department is fortunate enough to lead that initiative for that community,” said Pinder.

Pinder says he encourages anyone who is in need of food to stop by. He says to ensure enough food, families and individuals should register by the end of today.

“Everybody in the county is eligible for this food distribution. You sign up online. You fill out some food bank information, some questionnaires. They get some demographics from you but whether you need food or you know a family member that needs food, you can sign up and show up. The registration does end Friday. They have to turn it off so we can get some initial counts. We do project to have a higher number of folks in the community that need some assistance. I know there are some food distributions throughout Seguin that you see on the regular that have long lines so even if you go to those lines, you are eligible to come to this. There are no restrictions. We do ask that you pre-register so we can get that idea of folks that do need assistance,” said Pinder.

Pinder says volunteers are crucial to the success of this initiative and are warmly welcomed to participate. Those willing to lend a hand are encouraged to arrive by 8 a.m. The distribution is expected to last for a few hours.

Those wishing to volunteer are also encouraged to signup online at https://forms.gle/Jvfy9WVhrgrq4w948.

The food drive begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration, again, is encouraged by 5 p.m. today.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 300 hundred families had already signed up for food.
