Seguin ISD seeks leadership qualities in naming, selecting new top administrator
(Seguin) – The Seguin ISD wants to know what leadership qualities you want in the district’s next school superintendent. As part of their superintendent search, Seguin ISD families are reminded and encouraged to fill out a questionnaire that has already been provided to them and is now publicly available.

Emily Allen, the Seguin ISD director of communications, says developing a profile of the leadership qualities that Seguin desires is one of the most important steps in the superintendent search process.

“The survey that is coming from the district through the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services is going to help drive what we as a school district are looking for in our next superintendent. The goal here is to make sure that we have our Seguin ISD community involved in creating a picture of the person that we are looking for,” said Allen.

Allen believes the survey allows for real community input while also being quick and simple.

“They are going to ask you some questions about what your perceptions are of the current school district. They will ask you about which demographic you believe you belong to whether you are a member of the faculty, a student, a community member or parent. So, there are different things that will be asked but I can see that by just looking through this, this seems very straight forward, very simple. I don’t think it will take our community members very long at all. There are some open-ended questions or at least one that I found, and it says, ‘What do you consider to be the two or three most significant strengths of the district?’ So, there will be steps where people can give true feedback as opposed to just selecting an answer that they agree most with,” said Allen.

The search for a new superintendent in the Seguin ISD comes after Superintendent Veronica Vijil announced plans to retire after 32-years in public education.

Dr. Vijil will remain in her current position through June 30, 2025. She will then be reassigned to the position of Superintendent Emeritus. District officials say she will hold that position until her official retirement date of Dec. 31, 2025. It’s only been just over a year since Dr. Vijil took over the position following the resignation of former Superintendent Matthew Guiterrez.
