Cibolo resident Veronica Frizzel is setting up shop on the bottom floor of the building located at 217 S. River St. and plans to make it the home base for her Kimber Grace Boutique business.

Originally started in 2016 as an online store — Kimber Grace specializes in anything from graphic tees, artisan candles and funky jewelry to handcrafted wall art. Most of the products the shop carries cater to everyone’s taste, Frizzel said.

“When I go to vendor shows I try to find different styles for everyone. When I first started it I was looking for stuff I may wear and I realized that that doesn’t work everybody,” she said. “Now I ask friends and I definitely ask people on my Facebook group before I buy anything. I want their input because I want them to feel like I’m listening to them.”

Frizzel also makes it her goal to price her merchandise at reasonable amounts. “All my tops — you won’t find anything more than $30. If they’re even $30 I try not to do that,” she said. “The same with the jeans, my jeans are under $40.”

Dresses are some of the most popular items at Kimber Grace.

“I post them online and they go within a day. That’s something I’ve had to learn to do differently because now I have to stock a store and online,” Frizzel said.

After serving as a nurse for 13 years, Frizzel decided to open up the boutique as an opportunity to better support her family, which includes five children.

“I had to clothe four girls and myself and I realized I couldn’t afford to do that,” she said. “Girls always need something so I found another way. The stores I was going to were out of my price range so I made a boutique that I could afford.”

As for the name Kimber Grace — Frizzel took inspiration from her youngest daughter who just happens to be the namesake.

“I was battling an autoimmune disorder — I was really sick for years in and out of the hospital,” she said. “They did a lot of tests, but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me.”

Then Frizzel got pregnant again — despite having her tubes tied.

“The doctors said they couldn’t treat me anymore because I was pregnant. So they stopped all treatments and I got better and I haven’t gotten sick since,” she said. “It was a no-brainer to name the shop after her because she’s just a miracle.”

In addition to starting up the e-commerce shop, Frizzel opened up a shop in Bracken and Bandera. However, most recently the Bracken store closed so the family could open the new Seguin shop.

Since quitting her job as a nurse in June, Frizzel now focuses full time on the Kimber Grace Boutique.

“I’ve never worked as hard before. As a nurse, I worked 16-hour days, but this is definitely the hardest job,” she said. “It’s 24/7 because the online never closes. It’s my family’s business so it gives me that push to work even harder.  I get to bring Kimber Grace with me so I can be a full-time mom. I’ve never been able to do that so it’s just a blessing.”

When looking for a new spot to open up the new boutique, Frizzel said she had no doubt she wanted to open it in Seguin.

“We have 21 acres over on FM 1117 and we want this to be our home. We’ve lived in Cibolo forever, but it’s growing really quickly,” she said.

“I know all cities are going to grow, but it’s just too busy for us. I grew up in the country so I want all my kids to do so as well.”

The community has been very welcoming so far, Frizzel said.

“I’ve had people walking by and they come to talk to me. We walked all the shops and eaten all down here,” she said.

“Even before we got the shop we were downtown all the time. I grew up in a small town and this is a small community. I like the homey feel.”

Once Kimber Grace Boutique is open Frizzel plans to host different activities.

While the air conditioning is out at the building, Frizzel said she hopes it is fixed next week so the store can officially open it’s doors.
