(Seguin) — In a year where our small businesses have been struggling immensely, the celebration and promotion of Small Business Saturday has taken on a new level of importance for the City of Seguin.
Small Business Saturday began in 2010 when American Express came up with the idea to celebrate small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Following Black Friday – one of the busiest shopping days of the year – Small Business Saturday is meant to remind people to Shop Small and support their local small businesses as they begin their holiday shopping.
Each year, Seguin Main Street & CVB, Economic Development, the Seguin Chamber, the Seguin Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Alliance collaborate to promote Shop Local initiatives for Small Business Saturday, and 2020 will be no different.
A new addition to this year’s Small Business Saturday festivities will be the Downtown scavenger hunt. Participants will solve riddles leading them to participating downtown businesses. Once all clues have been solved, a complete holiday shopping guide will be unveiled providing ideas for the perfect gift item for everyone in your family. And the best part, all items will be from local small businesses!
“We are very excited to provide a fun and interactive way to encourage locals to support small businesses,” said Kyle Kramm, Director of Main Street & CVB. “We have so many incredible businesses with unique items that can take your holiday gifting to the next level.”
This year, Small Business Saturday is on November 28, 2020. Starting at 10am, participants can pick up their clue sheet at participating businesses or download it from the Seguin Main Street Facebook page. The scavenger hunt will occur between 10am and 4pm. Once individuals have completed all clues, they can drop off their forms at a participating business to be entered in a drawing to win gift cards to local businesses. No purchase necessary.
