(Seguin) —  Guadalupe County officials say they are finally seeing a plateau of patients being hospitalized at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center with COVID-19. Patrick Pinder, the Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator, shared the latest data on Tuesday with members of the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.

Pinder says the significant decrease in the number of those hospitalized is the first seen since late November, December.

“GRMC’s number has gone down since last week. There were about 28 patients at GRMC last week. As of (Tuesday), they are down to 23. Their seven day average has also gone down. They are seeing that plateau of patients being admitted to the hospital. So, that’s a good thing. There’s 2,221 people who have recently recovered from COVID and there’s 8,7011 people who are total recovered cases from COVID,” said Pinder.

Pinder also shared the latest number of COVID-related deaths for the county. Pinder says their local number finally mirrors the state reports.

“Our death count finally caught up to us. The state is finally reporting all of the deaths. That went into effect last week. The total cases are 162 deaths in Guadalupe County. Forty three of those deaths we don’t know which city they are from and you can tell that we’ve kept track of those by each judridication so you can see that the deaths and the categories that they are at,” said Pinder.

In his update to the court, Pinder also reported all other numbers. He says this week, reports indicate 536 confirmed active cases and 176 probable active. Overall, there’s been 12,000 cases in Guadalupe County.

Also finding their way into his report are the numbers of vaccines that have administered in the county.

“These are the allocated doses to Guadalupe County over the course of the weeks. Week 2, we had 2,000. Week 4, we had 1,300. Week 6, we had a total of 2,975. That was first and second does. Week 8 was our largest allocation. GRMC got a 1,000. Schertz got 100 and with some of these smaller doctor’s offices, we had 8,375 doses last week. This week, we have 1,975. About 1,000 of those are new does and 975 are second doses,” said Pinder.

Upon receiving news from the state, all updates about future COVID-19 vaccinations will be posted on the city of Seguin and Guadalupe County websites. Immediate details on the next mass vaccination clinic and how you can sign up will also posted on our website at seguintoday.com.
