(Seguin) — The number of COVID-19 cases continues to fall in Guadalupe County. Guadalupe County Commissioners recently got the latest updates and numbers of cases still being reported.

Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator, says it’s always good when he can come before the court and report better numbers.

“COVID cases have gone down in Guadalupe County. We currently have 90 actives cases of COVID. We have 13,454 recovered cases and 13,697 total cases reported to Guadalupe County. The data on the COVID cases are reflected as of Sunday afternoon. The hospitalization rate for the region is at 4 percent for all 28 counties. As far as deaths in Guadalupe County, we are sitting at 221 deaths in Guadalupe County. I am going to contact the state and do some research on that because the number reflective online and what we heard from local officials is that there is a big discrepancy there so I’m going to look into that. The local number is lower than the state’s number, so we are going to see where the issue is,” said Pinder.

As of Wednesday, the number of hospitalizations at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center was 10. That’s two more individuals than what was reported last week.

Pinder says while the cases are going down, the number of folks being vaccinated in Guadalupe County is climbing as fast as doses are being allocated to the area.

“So far the doses allocated to Guadalupe County are 53,635 doses. We’ve had 44, 138 administered to people in Guadalupe County. People who have gotten at least gotten one shot is 29,466 people and fully vaccinated people in Guadalupe County is 17,574 so it’s good to see that that number has gone up a bit since we first started doing this about a month ago. At first, it was a couple of hundred at a time. But now, we are seeing those jumps of a 1,000 a week as Schertz and some of these such as the hospital are starting to see these large allocations come to us so it’s good news,” said Pinder.

As for those vaccination clinics, Pinder says it’s important that people who sign up on the local waitlist continue to stay on top of their appointment and make any changes to their information as needed.  He says it’s especially important that they also notify them if they have already received their shot somewhere else and no longer need their spot on the list.

“The COVID-19 email address is working pretty well. Those folks who have to reschedule their second dose or who have questions or comments, they can email that covid19@co.guadalupe.tx.us. We do have some appointments that we are making through the call center today. We did have some county staff yesterday come over. We have some county staff downstairs currently making phone calls. We have about 600 people on the waitlist that did not respond to an email, so we are following up with phone calls with those folks. The other thing that we want to make sure is if you put your name on the waitlist, make sure you put the right information. If you put one symbol wrong or your email address, you don’t get that response,” said Pinder.

Meanwhile, every adult in Texas can get vaccinated against COVID-19.   The Texas Department of State Health Services says every adult will be eligible starting Monday, March 29. At that time, all eligible individuals are encouraged to get their name on the local waitlist.
