(undated) —  It’s not your imagination. Everybody is moving to Texas, according to the latest study by U-Haul. U-Haul’s John Martinez says Texas remains one of the most attractive places for people to move to.

“We have lots of jobs, and affordable homes. There are low regulation, and friendly people. You know, it’s got that wide open feel. So people really like it here,” said Martinez.

Martinez says the results of U-Haul’s latest growth index shows that Texas was not only tops on the list, but it also indicated that people were moving to Texas from all over the nation.

“California, Illinois, New York (and) surprisingly you’ll have some that will move back and forth from Nevada (and) Arizona,” said Martinez.

Martinez says Texas being the number desintation for movers is nothing new. He says the Lone Star is often near the top of its growth index.

“There have been multiple years where we’ve been number one or two, or even in the top five. I don’t recall the last time that we were out of the top five,” said Martinez.

UHaul  looked at one-way rentals in putting together its growth and migration index. Texas had more people coming than leaving, per capita. Florida is second on the latest list. When it comes to the states where people are fleeing from, California holds that distinction. But the study found that the California exodus in 2021 was not as severe as in 2020.  Here are the overall rankings in this year’s report:
