Yanali Herrera smiled as Seguin Police Lt. Colby Crow handed her a brand new bicycle on Saturday at the Patricia Irving King Pavilion at Starcke Park.

Herrera and her mother attended the annual Badges, Bikes and Tykes event for the first time and she walked away with a new bike.

Herrera was one of 160 children who made off with a new set of wheels from the event hosted by the Seguin Police Department and Seguin Fire Department.

Hundreds of families converged on the park for the three-hour event to play games, win prizes and hopefully have their number drawn for a bicycle.

“I think it is awesome,” father Korey Ramon said as his son Kristian Ramon rode around. “It is great to have something like this for the kids. It gets them outside. It is a good turnout.”

Children of all ages also had the opportunity to ride a kid-sized mechanical bull, dunk Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols or Seguin Assistant Fire Chief Gerrick Herbert, and meet officers from the Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire Department, the Guadalupe County SWAT Team and Texas Highway Patrol troopers.

The annual event gives area children the ability to have a positive interaction with first responders.
