(Seguin) – GRMC’s plan for the future continues to be put into motion with the official opening of its latest medical facility.

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s newest medical office building, the Willow, opened its doors to patients on Monday. The two- story, 21,000 square-foot medical facility is located at 105 Medical Drive in Seguin, near the Randolph Brooks building on Highway 90A.

Tasha Montez, CEO of the Guadalupe Regional Medical Group, says the new facility is in response to the fast rapid growth of patients in this area.

“I think what we’ve seen in the last few years of growth is just sort of the expansion of people and space and so, GRMC and GRMG, the medical group, we’ve expanded the number of specialists that we’ve hired and more physicians coming into the community and so as more physicians come into the community, we have to have state of the art, nice office space to put them in as well as office space that is accommodating and easily accessible for our patients so this is just an expansion for office space and being able to build for the future and our future needs,” said Montez.

Montez says demand for this space will continue to grow and will serve as a hub for specialized care.

“Currently, we have four specialties that will be in there. We have general surgery. We have endocrinology. We have ear, nose and throat and urology. So, we have quite honestly, we have space just for a few more because capacity has been reached pretty quickly, said Montez.

The Willow building is the first of several other medical office buildings envisioned for what is called the Medical Arbor Complex. Montez says GRMC not only owns the land around the building but also the adjacent ambulatory surgical center. She says GRMC again hopes that with the combined projects, the needs of the patients will be secured, and the housing of additional physician specialties will be readily available.

“Being able to in the future renovate the ambulatory surgical center where your surgical specialties can utilize that facility as well as the hospital for access as more and more outpatient procedures are performed — being able to utilize additional OR space and then we have plans, a master plan for at least three additional buildings. We don’t know what those are going to be yet but from a strategic standpoint, the executive team talks about different service lines, what types of services the community will need and expansion of those services and so as we talk strategic planning, those discussions will revolve around what types of services that we build in those additional buildings,” said Montez.

Robert Haynes, CEO of GRMC, says this is a great opportunity for Guadalupe Regional Medical Center to continue to provide the best possible care to the community and its patients.

“The purpose of the Medical Office Building is to improve our ability to serve our patients by offering high level specialized care and fulfilling our mission of making a positive difference in every life we are privileged to touch,” said Haynes.

He adds, “as Seguin and our area has grown, so has GRMC. No longer a small rural community hospital — we have become a leader in healthcare and a regional medical center serving six counties.”

Montez says some of the physicians moving into the Willow are well-established practices in Seguin, such as Drs. Robert Ryan and John White, urologists; Drs. Elizabeth Beste and Reinaldo Morales, general surgeons; Dr. Jonven Attia, endocrinologist; Ann Camacho, RN, diabetic educator and Dr. Jennifer Hennessee, ear, nose and throat.

New to the community and the Willow will be Dr. Jason Goodwin, an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. Estes Audiology will also augment the practices of both ENT specialists by providing hearing testing, consultation and hearing devices.
