(Seguin) — The Fourth of July weekend might be over, but Seguin Radio KWED is still in awe of being able to put another successful Freedom Fiesta in the books.

Hundreds of folks came out to the holiday celebration held Saturday. The event included live music, a host of food options and a plethora of bouncy houses.  Whether it was on the Guadalupe County Courthouse lawn or around the Central Park fountain, families took in all the sights and sounds of the evening.

KWED and Seguin Daily News General Manager Darren Dunn says he thanks the community and all the business sponsors for ensuring that the decades long tradition continues for the community. He says the night was exactly what he had hoped for.

“Freedom Fiesta exceeded every expectation that I had for tonight. There were more families here tonight and staying longer than I can remember ever and I think that it can be attributed to the fact that we tried to offer more families to do. We want people to come out and have a good time but we want the entire family to be able to share that experience together but I think we have the right band. I think Jumpstart was exactly the kind of band that we needed to transition out of COVID and back into a more normal festival and I think people appreciated that. They were a professional band and I mean that in every sense of the word in that they put on a quality show and it was clean and it was fun and so I think things went exceptionally well,” said Dunn.

Good food is no doubt one of the featured components of any festival and Dunn says Freedom Fiesta had exactly what people were looking for. Many if not most food booths and food trucks sold out and were kept busy all night long.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the food. That was a major part of the attraction not just the food trucks but the local vendors. I’ve talked to several people who were talking about some of the tacos and chicken and all the stuff that they ate tonight. I had the birria tacos and they were fantastic and so it was just a stellar night and I appreciate everybody who helped make that happen and who came out tonight,” said Dunn.

Among those enjoying the night was resident Melinda Herrera. Catching her as she bagged up her lawn chair was Seguin Radio KWED and the Seguin Daily News. Herrera says she was impressed with the Fourth of July celebration and already looks forward to next year.

“I’ve been here about an hour, and I’ve never been out here. It’s pretty exciting. I had a good time listening to music and dancing and of course the beer, always good. I like how the community came together. It was pretty good. It was pretty awesome. Next year, I’ll bring my kids,” said Herrera.

Those also in the crowd was local musician Clint Taft. For most Freedom Fiesta goers, you know that Clint Taft and the Buck Wild Band has been a band headliner for the event for many years. This time, however, he was among the crowd relaxing and enjoying the music of Jumpstart, the 11-piece variety band out of Austin that Dunn mentioned. In fact, it was Taft who made the suggestion to Seguin Radio KWED to welcome Jumpstart to the stage. However, whether on or off the stage, Taft says he knows how important Freedom Fiesta is to the community.

“It’s a wonderful time for families to come together — friends, people you have not seen. After we’ve been shut down the last few years or you know whatever, it’s been so good to see everyone again. The music was great. It’s great to be here and we sure enjoyed ourselves,” said Taft.

This year’s Freedom Fiesta also featured the annual Kiddie Parade hosted by the Guadalupe County Republican Women. Freedom Fiesta is the annual launch to the rest of the city of Seguin’s 4th of July schedule. That schedule again included the patriotic concert, the Fireworks Fiesta and the Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade.
