Lockhart has been designated as the barbecue capital of Texas by state lawmakers for more than 20 years. And that's fine, because I have never had a bad barbecue experience there after many trips and still get some goosebumps upon entering the city limits.

But things are a changing for folks in the San Antonio area. I'm of the belief that there is a new sheriff in town that blends the old with the new, and it's a heck of a lot easier to drive to Seguin than Lockhart for destination barbecue. There are also no rules that the city of 30,000 with the "world's largest pecan" can't also have good food.    

"People are traveling across the state, and even the country to eat barbecue here now," said Kyle Kramm, director of the Seguin Main Street and Visitors Bureau. "Everybody that has a business, especially downtown, is getting a benefit from it. It's been a lot of fun to watch."
