On Wednesday, February 22, the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) paired over 65 juniors and seniors from Navarro ISD, Marion ISD and Seguin ISD with Seguin area businesses so they could gain hands-on, real-world experience in a career of their choosing as part of the #SeguinJobShadowProgram.

“Job shadowing is a career exploration activity that offers students a chance to spend time with a professional currently working in their career field of interest,” said Josh Schneuker, SEDC Executive Director.

The Seguin Job Shadow Program is planned in conjunction with Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and provides our local high school students with an opportunity to shadow a career within their own community. The program provides students the ability to explore specific occupations and industries and allows them to learn more about specific job skills and responsibilities.

"Seguin Job Shadow Day is a great opportunity for students to learn more about a day-in-the-life of a career they are interested in pursuing," said Seguin ISD CTE Director Rick Bough. "On this day, students are exposed to the daily responsibilities and challenges of the job. This Seguin Job Shadow Day gives students a chance to experience those challenges as they happen and reflect on them in real-time with a professional in that career field. In many cases, the individual being shadowed will become a mentor for the student as they continue their path toward a career. We appreciate our partnership with SEDC on this event and others. Without their hard work, our students wouldn't have access to this experience."

CTE programs cover many different education fields, including healthcare, advanced manufacturing, business management & administration, information technology and many more. These programs are designed to build a stronger set of skills for each student in preparing them for a diverse set of outcomes; ranging from professional post-secondary degrees to career-focused workforce training.
