(Seguin) — Services for area veterans will be found all under one roof this week. The Guadalupe County Veterans Outreach Center will be hosting an information Fair this Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Helping to organize the event is Veterans Services Clerk Dina Dillon. Dillon says the information fair is another opportunity to showcase the center as a one stop shop for veterans and their families.

“With having a new building, we want to get veterans aware of all of the different organizations that can help them, benefit them, whether they have financial questions; school education questions for their children or for themselves. Memorial Park is coming in if they want to prepare for a funeral eventually one day. Preemptive things are important. We even have legal services coming; UTSA for colleges; Alamo Colleges — we have Medicare, health insurance; life insurance; HISA grants, various different things including Jujitsu, (for) exercise. So, we are trying to get everything covered in one full swoop where the veterans can come in and get information from all of the organizations that will be here,” said Dillon.

Dillon says folks will be surprised by the number of services that will be available that day. She says there will be something for everyone.

“You’d be surprised of the questions that I receive and I really feel that we have answered a lot of them with this information fair — lots of people who are very knowledge for so many different things. For any age group, we’ve got it covered,” said Dillon.

Dillon says the hope is not only to pair up veterans with assistance, support and opportunities but to also welcome them if they have not yet stopped by the new Veterans Outreach Center which opened in August.

“It’s a great opportunity just to kind of put their foot in the door to see what is available here and we’d love for them to check it out and realize that our door is open. We are here Monday through Friday 8 to 5 p.m. We have opportunities for them if they needed to use a computer, needed to make a copy of something — we have a notary here, myself. I’m a notary. It’s just different things that they may not think of. We might just have an answer for them here,” said Dillon.

Other available booths will include socializing groups, VA mortgage loans, retirement, youth programs, hospice medical power of attorney, amputee and inclusive therapy, woman’s defense classes and technology.

The Guadalupe County Veterans Outreach Center is located at 205 E. Weinert St. The center can be contacted by calling 830-303-4188 ext. 1249.
