(Seguin) – The final weekend has arrived for the live Texas Theatre production of ‘On Golden Pond’ by Ernest Thompson.
The show opened up last week on Valentine’s Day and continues this weekend, Feb. 21-23.
Director Pat Hoppe says the script made famous by the movie remains an all-time favorite for audiences.
“It should be familiar. ‘On Golden Pond’ was a movie in 1981 and the actors Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn both won Best Actor and Best Actress for that. Jane Fonda was also in it. So, most people know the play from the movie, but the play has been around even before that. It was in 1979,” said Hoppe.
Hoppe says every time they host a play, she is encouraged by those who experience the Texas Theatre for the very first time. She says not only do they walk away with great live entertainment, but they also leave, taking home a memorable experience at one of Seguin’s most historic buildings.
“When people walk into our theatre, they are amazed at how lovely it is. It really is a beautiful setting, and I think it would just expand their life if they would take advantage and come to the theatre and see a good play in a loving setting. We have a lot of new things that we have not done in the past,” said Hoppe.
Hoppe says securing seats at the theatre has also become more convenient, giving folks the opportunity to find the right show for them.
“All of our tickets are now sold on our website. It’s thetexas.org Click on buy tickets. It’s very easy. It’s a very friendly site for buying tickets, especially for us older people who are not good at that sort of thing. We now have reserved seats so when you log on, you can see where the seats are available, and you can click on those seats. So, that’s another real good thing that we are doing. You can also just walk up and buy tickets,” said Hoppe.
Ticket prices are $20 online or $25 at the door. Friday and Saturday show times get underway at 7:30 p.m. A Sunday matinee is also scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The Texas Theatre is located at 425 N. Austin St.
