Seguin Gazette - Another business joined the community with an official snip of the red ribbon on Friday.

Metal Central hosted the grand opening of its Seguin store, located at 2902 Heideke St., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and plant tours.

“We manufacture metal buildings and metal roofing,” Metal Central Seguin general sales manager David Peters said. “Roofs are what we do mostly, but we can do the whole building. We manufacture and we sell to the contractors and distributors who will put them up for the customers.”

The Seguin location is one of four other locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Cedar Hill. “The area here is growing so fast and that’s one of the reasons we chose Seguin,” Peters said. “It’s one of the fastest growing areas of the country. Certainly, the proximity was another reason. We’re right on I-10, near the toll road and by State Highway 123 so we can reach all the way to Austin. This area is blowing up and they love to build metal buildings down here so this was the perfect spot.”

According to the Metal Central site, the company specializes in roofing for residential, agricultural, recreational, commercial and architectural purposes.

They also can supply pole barns and bolt-up buildings, the site said.

Unlike their parent company — Central States Manufacturing which sells to distributors and also is located at 2902 Heideke St. — Metal Central works directly with customers who visit the store.

“Central States, what they’ve always done is manufacture and sell to the distributors,” Peters said. “So with Metal Central people can come in and I can help them design the building. If a farmer wants to build a barn I can help with that, but before Central States wasn’t equipped for that. We can do a lot of smaller jobs. If a contractor wants to get in on building metal roofs he can come in here and we’ll help him get ready for his business. We want to help build relationships and help them be successful.”

Central States director of marketing John Williams said they’re happy to be a part of the community.

“On behalf of all of our employees across the nation, our executive management team, Seguin really fits our values,” he said. “It fits what we want to do in communities, which is making a difference, and that’s employing people and making jobs. We’re 100 percent employee-owned company so all of our employees have a stake in the ownership and business.”

Seguin Economic Development Corporation executive director Josh Schneuker said they’re excited about the new store. “Congratulations on the new operation,” he said during the ceremony on Friday. “I think adding a component like this to your operation in Seguin is gonna help boost our sales tax numbers and help grow your business again. I think it’s beneficial to both parties and we’re really excited for you … Best of luck on the continued growth here.

Central States opened its Seguin plant in 2016 to serve the South Texas area. Between the Seguin plant and the new Seguin Metal Central store, Peters said they currently have about 30 employees. Central States has other plants in Arkansas, Illinois, North Carolina, South Dakota, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Alabama and Cedar Hill, Texas.
