(Seguin) — The Seguin ISD is doing even more to ensure that students are prepared for online learning this coming school year.

First, the district has hired a new director of digital learning. The position was created to assist administrators and staff as they implement remote learning in response to COVID-19.

Hired to help lead the Seguin ISD in digital learning is Juan Orosco. Orosco, comes to Seguin after having served a similar position in the Del Valle ISD near Austin. Orosco, who was able to join the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees during its Zoom meeting on Tuesday, says he looks forward to the opportunity.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Seguin family so I am super psyched to join such a dynamic group so thank you for the opportunity,” said Orosco.

Second, the Seguin ISD has secured even more hotspot devices through North American Catholic Educational Programming. The devices are to further ensure connectivity district wide.

Bill Lewis, the chief operations, and associate superintendent for the Seguin ISD, says the district has ordered 110 new devices on top of its already 640 hotspots across the district. He says this recent purchase will work alongside another effort to have even more.

“We are also in works with the state on a commodity purchase, to purchase about 250 more devices so we are trying to hit my goal of 1,000 devices so we should be covered for the year. We should be in pretty good shape,” said Lewis.

This latest purchase for the district includes a one-year service plan for CoolPad Hotspots. The $91,000 purchase was authorized and approved as an emergency transaction for the school district.
