(Seguin) – The bells will be ringing even louder this year as this year’s Holiday Stroll Jingle Bell Run looks to welcome its largest group of participants ever. That’s according to Amber Ehrlich, of the Downtown Business Alliance of Seguin.

Ehrlich says the group is excited about welcoming a record crowd this Saturday morning in downtown Seguin.

“As of this morning, we are at 154 which last year, we had 80 so that’s really good. We have people as far away as Austin and Houston coming to run with us,” said Erhlich.

Perhaps helping to attract more participants this year is the move to making the run/walk a timed event. More importantly, she says the event is designed for athletes of all levels—walkers, joggers, and runners. Even strollers and friendly dogs on a leash are welcome.

“It is a timed race this year so if you are a competitive person, it will be timed. Anyone is welcome for the Jingle Bell Run – any age, you can walk, skip, hop or jump the run. The starting point is in Central Park and the route will go down through Park West and will then turn around and head back to Central Park,” said Ehrlich.

Ehrlich says making the event even more festive will be a holiday costume contest plus prizes for the top three costumes. The costumes, however, are optional.

Entry fees are $20 for kids ages 5 to 12 and $30 for those age 13 and older. The cost on the day of the race will be $35. Registration is available online at athleteguild.com.

Erhlich says this year’s finish line will also be a place families will want to be whether they participate in the Jingle Bell Run or not.

“We do have a lot of families signed up, so I think it’s going to be a great family event. Anyone is welcomed and after the event, we have North Pole Stroll in the Park so it’s a family friendly event with all free activities so it will be a good family day in Downtown Seguin,” said Erhlich.

The 5K gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Registration on the day of the event begins at 7 a.m.
