(Seguin) - For Barbara Good, the Guadalupe County Fair is more than an annual event to attend; it’s a family tradition.
Good, who serves as the Guadalupe County Fair Association president, said her time attending the county’s largest festival started when she was just a child. And now it’s something she shares with her children and grandchildren.
“I grew up in Seguin and I’ve been coming to the fair since I was a little girl,” she said. “Even before I got on the fair board, since we live within a mile, we were here every single night. So, my girls, they weren’t going to miss the fair.”
Not only does Good head up the association, her daughters are members and her grandchildren pitch in to help.
The county fair is an annual event that serves as a fundraiser to supports youth, while prompting agriculture, heritage and community.
The Guadalupe County Fair will officially begin 5 p.m. Thursday and run until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Seguin Events Complex.
Each year, the association brings new attractions and events, while keeping some of the original contests and entertainment that fair-goers look forward to each year, Good said. This year, the fair is bringing in the comedy show of Dan-Dan the Farmer Man, who uses water and props to entertain and make it rain, Good said.
The fair is also bringing San Antonio Style Wrestling on Saturday night and Sunday evening.
A new educational opportunity is the Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Classroom, which will set up shop at the fair grounds for the duration of the fair beginning Thursday, Good said.
“They’ll have the cows and they’ll actually do demonstrations,” she said.
Taking the stage at the dance pavilion are four local bands — one per night.
The fair is also featuring its annual home arts, horticulture and pumpkin decorating contests, fiddler’s contest, pet show, Fair Queens Contest, PRCA Rodeo and more.
The association invites some of the community’s elder residents to enjoy some time at the annual event on Senior Day, Good said.
“Our Senior Day is something we started two years ago,” she said. “We invite our local nursing homes and in-bound seniors that don’t normally get to come out to a rodeo for a day at the fair. They get to come out and watch slack on Friday morning, come to the dance building for some activities and games, and they can watch the parade through a live feed.”
The annual Fair Parade is set for 10 a.m. Friday and will march south on Austin Street from College Street to the fair grounds. Community members who can’t make it out to the parade will still have an opportunity to watch it live, Good said.
“This year, the Seguin High School broadcast students are providing a live feed of the parade so everyone can watch it,” she said.
The Guadalupe County Fair has a little something for everyone, Good said.
“It’s fun for your whole family and you can make memories,” she said. “It is amazing what the kids remember as they grow up.”

Gabe Galvan will kick off the fair Thursday night, Texas Double Shot will take the stage Friday, Fast Moving Train performs Saturday and Floyd Drown and the Shadows play Sunday afternoon.
Pride of Texas Shows is returning with its carnival featuring rides, games and food. The fair is selling armbands in advance online only for $25 each until noon Thursday. After noon, they go to full price, Good said.
This year, the fair will have several food trucks set up serving various eats including Cajun, Mexican, Italian and American cuisine, coffee, desserts and more, Good said.
