(Seguin) — The Seguin Commission on the Arts, the City Council appointed board that oversees public art in Seguin and is part of the Main Street & CVB Department, hosted its first Art & Wine Walk in downtown Seguin on October 1. The event included wine tastings, local artists, presentation of awards, and shopping with local downtown boutiques.

“This was our inaugural Art & Wine Walk, and overall, it was a great success,” said Kyle Kramm, City of Seguin’s Main Street & CVB Director, “The proceeds from the event will be going towards future public art projects and maintaining our existing pieces.”

Part of the event included the presentation of the annual art awards at the Texas Theatre. The Youth Artist of the Year was presented to Isabella Guerra for her years with Teatro’s Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa and Mariachi Juan Seguin and is proficient in several instruments. The Art Organization of the Year is Seguin ISD’s Mariachi Matador Program which has celebrated nine years of performing and now has almost 300 students. The final award, the Outstanding Contributor to the Arts was presented to Dra. Yvonne De La Rosa for her leadership of Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin and promotion of the Mexican American arts.

“One of the roles of the Commission is to recognize locals who are making significant contributions to the local art scene, and the Commission was proud to recognize these individuals and organizations this year,” said Kramm.

The Commission would like to thank everyone who made the event possible, including our sponsors, wineries, the artists, and the downtown businesses.
